Alexander’s great Australian tour

Urban legends are odd.  We all dismiss them but we can’t help but listen when someone spouts the newest load of nonsense.  This one comes from Broome, Western Australia a dusty pimple on the right ear of the Australian Continent.  It’s know for pearls, mining and now, it seems, Alexander the Great.

Mr Tim Tuningis remembered a story that his now ages and senile friend, Lou Batalis told of unusual writing being found in a cave near Broome.  When government officials investigated they asked the Greek community if anyone could read ancient greek.

“Naturally Louis Batalis put his hand up and said, ‘Yes, I went to school in Egypt, I got educated, I can read it’. So they took him up there and he defined the inscriptions as saying, in ancient Greek, ‘Alexander the Great’.

The evidence for this ridiculous suggestion that Alexander the Great somehow found himself across the Indian Ocean?  Well, they haven’t found it have they, it must be in Broome.

Now, you’re probably thinking I’m pulling your leg.  It is April 1 tomorrow, but this is the story as it as been reported.
